The truth is some things men can be better at doing when it comes to getting ahead in our careers, and some things women can be better at doing. The opportunity comes in how we can better support each other.

“How to help harness your own ambitions and potential, and to support others you might lead or work with harness theirs?”
1️⃣ ASK FOR PROMOTIONS. Say your ambitions out loud. Don’t ask, don’t get. And if you lead others ask where people want to be in 12 months and how you can support them.
2️⃣ ASK FOR FLEXIBILITY. And be flexi in what good flexibility can look like, but set very clear expectations. It’s got to be a win-win for all. If you lead others remember flexibility isn’t just about the location of work. When people work and how people work is all flexible.
3️⃣ SPEND TIME BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS. Get good people around you who will support and advocate for your success. If you lead others offer diverse types and styles of networking and relationship building occasions so everyone can participate and add value.
4️⃣ DO NOT TOLERATE MICROAGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR. If you see demeaning or dismissive behaviour going on, don’t ignore it. This is your environment too, so make it one to be proud of.
5️⃣ KNOW HOW YOU ADD IMPACT. Know what you do best, where you add the most contributions and spend more time here. If you lead others ask them regularly what they love doing and build these opportunities into their remit.
